چکیده

This paper is meant to be an introduction to the study of numerical analysis. We explore a sampling of numerical techniques used to address several elementary, yet fundamental queries, such as finding roots to continuous real-valued functions and solving linear systems of the form Ax = b. We approach these problems from a numerical perspective, describing the algorithms we use.

A Comparison of Sampling Techniques for Uncertainty Quantification

Uncertainty quantification in numerical simulations generally relies on applying sampling techniques to select input parameters for a suite of deterministic calculations and then combining the results of the calculations into output distributions. Several approaches, including metamodeling and Latin Hypercube Sampling, are prevalent today. This paper will focus on the comparison of several comm...

Numerical Simulation of Flash Boiling Effect in a 3-Dimensional Chamber Using CFD Techniques

Flash Boiling atomization is one of the most effective means of generating a fine and narrow-dispersed spray. Unless its complexity its potential has not been fully realized. In This Paper, a three dimensional chamber has been modeled with a straight fuel injector. Effect of Flash Boiling has been investigated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques. A finite volume approach with the ...

Nonlinear and Non-Gaussian State-Space Modeling with Monte Carlo Techniques: A Survey and Comparative Study

Since Kitagawa (1987) and Kramer and Sorenson (1988) proposed the filter and smoother using numerical integration, nonlinear and/or non-Gaussian state estimation problems have been developed. Numerical integration becomes extremely computer-intensive in the higher dimensional cases of the state vector. Therefore, to improve the above problem, the sampling techniques such as Monte Carlo integrat...

Robust Estimation With Sampling and Approximate Pre-Aggregation

The majority of data reduction techniques for approximate query processing (such as wavelets, histograms, kernels, and so on) are not usually applicable to categorical data. There has been something of a disconnect between research in this area and the reality of database data; much recent research has focused on approximate query processing over ordered or numerical attributes, but arguably th...

Efficient Multidimensional Sampling

Image synthesis often requires the Monte Carlo estimation of integrals. Based on a generalized concept of stratification we present an efficient sampling scheme that consistently outperforms previous techniques. This is achieved by assembling sampling patterns that are stratified in the sense of jittered sampling and N-rooks sampling at the same time. The faster convergence and improved anti-al...
